Train operator c2c has announced a deal for £100m worth of new trains to be manufactured by Bombardier.
The agreement will see 60 carriages of the latest Aventra trains delivered to c2c by the end of 2021, three years earlier than previously planned.

Southend schools have once again soared up the national performance tables, coming 28th out of 151 local authorities for reading, writing and maths at Key Stage 2. This is a rise of 22 places from 2016.

EasyJet is launching four routes out of Southend Airport to Bordeaux, Prague, Dubrovnik and Pula.
The flight to France will have three weekly frequencies once it launches on July 25 next year, while the twice-weekly Prague flight launches on July 27.
The two Croatian services will operate twice weekly with Pula commencing on July 27 and Dubrovnik the day after.

Plans to deliver increased secondary school places from 2018 onwards are set to be fully delivered through expansions at existing secondary schools, rather than the building of a new school.
Eight local secondary schools have confirmed to the council that they are willing to expand to create 13 new forms of entry (FE) between them by 2020.

Southend Council has announced free festive parking ahead of the Christmas shopping rush.
All 10 council run car parks across Southend town centre will be free on Thursdays after 4pm for late-night shopping and all day on Sundays throughout December.

Public consultation on proposals for regenerating the Queensway area in central Southend opens today.
Southend Council is developing proposals to regenerate the Queensway area, creating a new residential-led development made up of high quality housing, commercial space, improved public areas and a new road network.

Southend Council has been awarded £1.7m of Government funding from the Department of Transport.
The ‘National Productivity Investment Funding’ (NPIF) will be used to carry out £2.5m of road improvements in key town centre locations, including improving right turn access to Warrior Square and Tylers Avenue car parks and providing better car parking signage around the town.

Southend Airport has submitted an application to Rochford District Council for permission to extend its terminal building. This will offer greatly improved facilities for passengers and enable it to meet new aviation regulations.
