Nearly nine in ten Southend-on-Sea children will start primary school in September 2018 at their first choice primary school, and almost all at one of their top three preferences. Out of 2147 applications, 1914 (89%) received an offer for their first preference, 141 (7%) their second preference, and 26 (1%) an offer for their third choice. Stobart is set to invest up to £40m in Southend Airport between 2018 and 2021 after its aviation division benefited from a 25 per cent increase in passengers. In a trading update, Stobart said it would continue to invest in route development, branding, marketing and airline incentive deals at the airport, plugging in £10m for this year alone. There’s even more Mediterranean sunshine available from Southend Airport this summer as Air Malta takes off from London’s Best Airport for the very first time. The flag carrying airline of Malta will be operating three times weekly to the island from May 4th, 2018. It will also fly to two Italian islands; there will be weekly flights to both Catania (the second largest city of Malta’s neighbour, Sicily) and Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia. Southend Council has successfully bid for £15m of Government funding to help make the Better Queensway project a reality. Southend Council is looking for residents and visitors, including young people, to take part in an online consultation for a possible new sports facility in the town centre for wheeled sports enthusiasts. The online consultation looks to identify which of three possible locations local people and visitors would prefer to see the potential new facility built.
