The Seven Hotel is owned by Javed Rashid, who is working with business partners Omar Rahimi and Sadiq Chikte on the £3.5m transformation of the former Raymond House care home in Clifton Terrace into a new landmark building.
Raymond House operated as a care home from 1970, but closed in November last year after being judged inadequate by the Care Quality Commission.
Following the care home’s closure, Mr Rashid secured planning permission to create an upmarket hotel with 37 luxury bedrooms, a steak and seafood restaurant, bar and outdoor terrace. The interior and exterior of the building will be completely remodelled, with the owners promising to spare no expense on the finest materials.
Mr Rashid said: “When we began planning this exciting hotel project, we wanted to develop a boutique hotel that Southend and Essex can be proud of. Hence, we needed to have the best suppliers and designers on board.”
Southend-based GMD Limited is working on the project, alongside Appleby Architects and award-winning interior designer Tibbatts Abel.
Sadiq Chikte added: “It’s our first hotel in the industry; we are hoping to build on the Seven Hotel brand and its key principles to form other hotels in the near future.
Around 20 new jobs will be created when the hotel first opens, with the owners currently recruiting for positions in the hotel, restaurant and bar.
