Stobart Group, the operator of Southend Airport, has confirmed that Flybe will operate 12 new European routes from the airport next year.

The routes, operated through Stobart's franchise agreement with Flybe, will start from May 2017, though tickets are already on sale.

The new routes are:
  • Milan
  • Budapest
  • Venice
  • Cologne
  • Dubrovnik
  • Zadar
  • Prague
  • Vienna
  • Lyon
  • Perpignon
  • Reus
  • Corsica (Figari)

Flights to Cologne, Lyon and Milan take off on May 1. A new route to Budapest starts on 4 May, followed by flights to Venice on 7 May, Prague on 8 May then Vienna and Reus on 10 May. Dubrovnik begins on 16 May, the only scheduled direct London airport route to the French city of Figari starts on 19 May, followed by Perpignan on 25 May and Zadar on 27 May.

This will take the number of routes operating from London Southend Airport to 28 routes from Spring 2017, with more routes expected to be added.

Andrew Tinkler, chief executive of the Stobart Group, said: "The confirmation of new routes from London Southend Airport today further builds on the strategic growth platform we have created in Stobart Group's Aviation Division. This is part of the next stage of our strategy to build new passenger routes at London Southend Airport, capitalising on the growing demand in the South East."

Glyn Jones, chief executive of Stobart Aviation, which owns and operates Southend Airport, said: “Our recently completed customer research shows that there is a real desire for more city breaks to cater for the emerging ‘weekender’ trend.“With Southend Airport just 45 mins by train from the east London hub at Stratford, it means you could be in our departure lounge in under an hour. We make escaping London for the weekend as quick and easy as it can be.”

Tickets are on sale now at www.flybe.com, with prices starting from £29.99 per person (including taxes).
