Airport Business Park plans progressing

26/3/2016

An outline planning application to create a new 78,000 square metre Airport Business Park has been approved by Rochford District Council.

Detailed permission has also been given to build the necessary infrastructure that will help make it a reality.

This work could start as early as this summer to create the new business park that includes plans for a new Anglian Ruskin Medtech campus, an innovation centre, hotel, space for local engineering and aviation businesses and hi-specification office space.

In further good news for the project, it has been confirmed that £3.2m has been allocated from the SELEP Local Growth Fund to contribute to the new roundabout and enabling infrastructure to open up the site from Cherry Orchard Way.

In February, planning permission was given to relocate council rugby pitches used by Westcliff Rugby Club (WRC) and outline consent for a new clubhouse and car parking.

Cllr Ron Woodley, leader of Southend Council, says: “Our ambitious plans with Rochford are a once in a generation opportunity to bring in significant private sector investment and generate thousands of new jobs in attractive, modern business premises in the area around London Southend Airport.

“Our vision with Rochford is crucial to the area’s future prosperity so I am delighted that these two key planning consents have now been granted to enable the plans to go ahead.

“Now that the relevant permissions have been given we can start work on the new rugby pitches and necessary infrastructure for the business park this Summer.

“As an added bonus it has now also been confirmed that we will receive £3.2m of Government funding to help carry out the infrastructure works.

Rochford District Council leader Cllr Terry Cutmore said: “This is a great project that will boost and enhance the economy for all our residents and for future generations.

“It’s exciting to see it taking shape and shows how developers, such as Henry Boot, together with ourselves and Southend-on-Sea Borough Council can successfully work together to get schemes like this off the ground.

“The JAAP has brought together stakeholders, communities, councillors and residents and sets a precedent in what can be achieved with a common goal, professionalism and enthusiasm.”

Adrian Schofield, Director for Henry Boot Developments said “We are very excited to have secured planning permission for the development and look forward to getting started on site this summer with the new roundabout and access road and continuing with the development from there.

“The development will offer great opportunities for businesses including in the engineering and manufacturing sectors to achieve bespoke accommodation with the comfort that it will be delivered by a major developer with a long track record.

“Businesses interested in finding out more about the opportunities which may be available, particularly in the office, medical, aviation and advanced engineering sectors, should contact Henry Boot Developments Ltd by email at [email protected]”
