A HUGE development of 282 flats, plus restaurants, shops and bars could be built on Southend seafront ambitious if new plans unveiled today come to fruition.

After a year of delays and false starts, developer Goldfield has taken the wraps off proposals to transformMarine Plaza, the area off Marine Parade.

The site would be home to six blocks of flats – one of them 14 storeys tall– with a wide range of bars, shops, takeaways, and restaurants. on the ground floor.

whilst fully in support of the development of this ugly carbuncle of land on our foreshore ,, I am not convinced that the building of more flats (to maximise profit) is right... The height of this development is the issue ,, there appears to be no or few balconies and yet another huge blot on the horizon , which puts existing homes and business into shadows , is not really desirable ,, is it ?

Whilst I applaud improvements to the seafront I feel that 182 flats etc will overload the already overloaded drains today we have 2 feet of water and our power has interrupted due to the flooding so we are unable to open the falcon on marine parade I wonder if people will mind there cars floating in the underground car park!

I live very near to there, and we definitely don't want more high rises, not only are they ugly, it will mean more traffic, plus the drains defiantly won't be able to deal with it, there's been so many floods in the last year or so. Why not build something that will bring more visitors, and something we will all benefit from. If fiats are built are they going to be for sale or council.

omg NOOOOOOoooo way, modern building near the beautiful kursaal building, what are they thinking. A great big set of flats! we cant have that on the sea front, may-be take of the top 10 floors, and build them an older style. build the flats at the back bit of land not right on the front. The council dont listen to what we say any way, money talks. The cafe on the pier is horrible another modern building on a beautiful old pier. The pier has never been the same since the end of the pier got burnt down in 1976, and they never rebuilt the lovely bowling alley in 1995.
